The aim of the program is the provision of high quality academic education at a BA level and the promotion of Research in the fields of Journalism, Mass Media, Cultural and Social History, and the Social Sciences more broadly. In the framework of this general aim, the program is structured so that it enhances, in a developmental process, the introduction, acquaintance, and eventually specialization of the students in the field of Journalism and in the analysis of the social-cultural function and dynamics of the Media. In this context (which is based on a liberal arts/humanistic studies framework) it is expected that the students will develop skills for, interpretation, organization, and transmission of information – in both Journalistic practice and in social science research. There is a special emphasis in this context on the use of scientific methodology and in the analysis of social reality during the exercise of the journalistic profession.Through the encouragement of critical thought, the program of study aims to contribute towards the creation of new [aesthetic, cultural, political and social] forms of perceiving reality and comprehending the alternative possibilities which are possible in given historical circumstances and dynamics.
There are no specific admission requirements for this Program. Candidates can be admitted to the Program only if they satisfy the general admission requirements of the University.
