University of Cyprus aims to establish itself as a Pioneer Research Institution achieving International Scientific Recognition in European Higher Education, offering Competitive Programmes and to become a Centre of Excellence in the wider Euro - Mediterranean Region.
The programme is primarily designed for thoseinterested in the scientific investigation of language andhas the following main objectives:• to offer students a solid foundation and deepen theirknowledge in the main areas of English grammar andthe structure of language;• to acquaint students with different areas in the field(such as syntax, semantics, phonology, appliedlinguistics, etc.);• to provide guidelines for students conducting researchin the field of linguistics, and consequently encouragethem to further their studies.
(a) Postgraduate programmes at Master’s level: All
applicants for entrance in the M.A. programmes
offered by the Department must hold a first class or
uppersecond class degree (or equivalent) in a subject
related to their proposed field ofstudy. All candidates
must be competent and fluent in English and,
depending on the nature of the programme, in other
relevant languages. Although candidates need not
have completed their degree at the time of
application, they must have received it before they
commence the postgraduate programmes.
(b) Postgraduate programmes at Ph.D. level: Generally,
applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent),
awarded by a recognized university, in a subject
related to their proposed field of study; alternatively,
they must show evidence of their ability to conduct
research in the humanities.
